The North Maharashtra University is one of the upcoming universities in India, the university was established on 15th August, 1990 under the Maharashtra University Act No. XXIX of 1989 as a teaching and affiliating University. It actually started its academic and administrative activities under the leadership of Prof. Dr. N. K. Thakare, the first Vice Chancellor of the university, from academic year 1991-92. The jurisdiction of North Maharashtra University is spread over three districts of North Maharashtra i.e. Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.
The university was shifted to its own campus in 1995.The university is situated on the banks of river "Girna" and the campus of the university is spread over a hilly terrain of 650 acres of land. Each building of the campus is well connected through tar roads constructed by the University itself. The University is also well connected to Jalgaon City by Asian Highway No. 46. The transport modes like City Bus Service, Auto Rickshaws are available for employees, students, visitors.
The university is imparting education to students, through various courses at under graduate, post graduate, doctoral and post doctoral level, under 09 faculties, which includes Science, Engg. & Technology , Education , Medicine & Pharmacy , Ayurvedic Medicine , Arts & fine arts, Commerce and Management, Mental, Moral & Social Sciences, Law faculty .
Right now, there are 6 schools and 11 academic departments on the campus. Soon we will be strarting new academic departments. There are more than 200 colleges and 37 institutes and 17 recognized R & D centres affiliated to the university and this number is growing every year. The syllabi of different courses are designed to give profound and latest knowledge about the subjects to the students. The element of computer education is also being added to B.A., B.Sc. & B.Com. courses. The syllabi of the courses are revised from time to time as per the requirement.
In a very short period of time the university has gained name and fame on National and International levels. This university has also acquired the prestigious 2(f) & 12(b) recognition from the UGC. The university has been re-accredited with 'B' (CGPA 2.88) grade duly honoured by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Banglore. When NAAC committe assessed the functioning of the teaching and non teaching departments of the University, awarded the 4 star status in 2001 and reaccredited in December 2008 as 'B' (CGPA 2.88) grade. There are more than 200 affiliated colleges and 37 institutes and 17 recognized R & D centres. Some of the affiliated colleges have undergone the NAAC evaluation and others are in the process of getting NAAC accreditation.

Career Counseling and Placement Services
At the end of 4th Semester, several Schools/Departments arrange Campus Interviews as a part of extended duties towards students. This activity has started in the last 2 years and provided placement to around 10 % students.
Thus, an integrated program of students progression is implemented through the above curricular, co-curricular, value of SHRAMADAN creating, counseling and placement activities.

Hostel Facility
Girls Hostel
North Maharashtra University provides good hostel facility for non localite Male/Female students. We have build 2 Boys Hostels and 2 Girls Hostels. Both the Hostels are equipped with necessary facilities to make the stay of students comfortable.
Boys Hostel
Both Girls and Boys are provided hostel accommodation on merit and in proportion to students strength in different academic programs offered on the campus. There are two boys hostels. The old hostel has a capacity of 142 with 40 single seated rooms and 34 triple seated rooms and new hostel has capacity of 197 with single seated rooms and triple seated rooms. Similarly, the girls hostel has a capacity of 136 with 40 single seated and 32 triple seated rooms. The single occupancy rooms are reserved for research students and fellows, while the triple occupancy rooms are provided to post-graduate students. The admission to the hostel is purely on merit basis. Both the hostels have independent rectors from the resident senior faculty.
The hostel students are provided with hot water for bathing throughout the year. The boys and girls hostels have independent mess which is run by contract personnels to ensure the quality of food at reasonable rates. The hostels are well equipped with all basic facilities. The hostels are well ventilated, aerated and furnished with tables, chairs, fans, fluorescent light, water cooler and solar hot water facility. Each hostel has a common hall for recreation and mess for boarding, run by an authorized contractor.
At present total capacity of each of the hostel is inadequate to meet the demand . Extension work of boys' hostel building is in progress to meet the demand. However, the completion of the extension building for boys' hostel will take at least one year. The demand had been long anticipated in view of the number of new courses started by the NMU in the recent past.
