Training & Placement
One of the remarkable feats achieved by the Institute has been in the realm of training and placement. Our Training and Placement Department provides facilities to different companies to conduct online written tests and interviews for Campus Recruitment for the final year students. It is a matter of great pride that we have achieved impressive placement for our students, with top industrial houses and software companies recruiting our students in a big way. In the year 2005-06 thirty nine companies visited the institute for placement. It was heartening to note that a large number of student were placed in companies visiting the institute for placement. It was visiting heartening to note that a large number of students were placed in core as well as software industries. The year 2005-06 has witnessed of an upsurge in the placement of our students as the percentage of B.Tech. Students selected is approximately 93%.
The T&P Department of the Institute provided facilities to different companies to conduct campus recruitment Interview and Written tests for the final year students of B.Tech(Hons) of various disciplines including M.C.A and M.Tech. The campus Recruitment Process started from July 2005 till May 2006 for the students of U.G. and P.G. for the academic session 2005-06.
The Campus Selection Teams from various companies & organizations, which visited the Campus, expressed their appreciation for teamwork and hospitality provided by the Institute and the dedication of our students. The visiting teams were provided with Audio-Visual Aids, Institute Car, Accommodation in Institute Guest House/Hostels and suitable assistance as desired by them from time-to-time. We took special care of the visiting teams durning their stay at our Institute and got assurance from them that they would be visiting our Institute for campus Recruitment in future also. The name of the top most thirty-five companies, which have visited our institute in the session 2005-2006, have been attached which includes number of the students selected and the pay package offered by the companies per annum in lakhs. Percentage of B.Tech (Hons) students selected is approximately 93%.
In addition to the above responsibility the T&P department also arranged vocational training for our sixth semester B.Tech(Pre-Final Year) students of all the disciplines to different Industries and Companies located in and outside Jamshedpur. M/S Tata Steel has selected one student from Electronics Engg. Department for Vocational Training and has offered a stipend for the training period. Apart from that many students have done their vocational training in the prestigious organization like TATAMOTORS, HAL,NAL,SAIL,SASKEN,NTPC and Larsen and Tubro etc.
Accommodation
There are ten halls of residence in the institute campus, 8 for boys and 2 for girls. A new hall of residence having 300 single seated rooms will soon become functional. Each Hall of Residence is being managed by a Hall Executive Committee (HEC) consisting of the Warden, Assistant Wardens, President, General Secretary, and Mess, Maintenance and Cultural Secretaries together with some other representatives of the boarders. The Wardens and Assistant Wardens, President,General Secretary, and Mess, Maintenance and Cultutal Secretaries together with some other representatives of the boarders. The Wardens and Assistant Wardens are selected from among the faculty members, normally for a period of three years, and the rest of the HEC members are elected every year from among the residents of the Hall.
There are seven sanctioned posts of darwans and sweepers in each Hall of Residence. But presently only four employees are posted. This has caused problems in the management of the Halls. At least six persons are required for smooth functioning of the Halls.
Each Hall of Residence has been provided with sufficient fund for maintenance and other necessary expenditure. Part time accountants have been placed in each Hall of Residence to process the bills and keep the account. Two auditors have also been appointed on Part-Time basis to audit the account of all the Halls of Residence. The Supply water problem in the Halls of Residence is partially solved. the jet pumps in the tube wells, which caused problem during summer, have been replaced by submersible pumps, Aqua-guards have been provided for purification of drinking water in each hall of residence.
Admission
Admission Procedure:
UNDER GRADUATE
Out of total seats of 390 available in this institute, 50% (195 seats) are reserved for candidates qualifying from the state in which the institute is located and rest 50% (195 seats) are reserved for the other candidates based on the population of the respective state, which is decided by MHRD, Govt. of India. For 195 seats allotted to the students of other states, the respective National Institute of Technology of the state nominate the students for the admission at this institute on the basis of the combine entrance examinations conducted by AIEEE. The reservation policy of the Central Govt. was followed in nominating the students from S.C /S.T. categories. Few seats (decided by Ministry of Foreign affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi) are reserved for the students of foreign nations, which are nominated by ICCR, New Delhi.
POST GRADUATE
M. Tech. students are admitted on the basis of their GATE score & their performance at a screening test / interview conducted by the institute. Students are admitted to the MCA program based on their performance at NIMCET
EXAMINATION SYSTEM
The institute is having semester pattern of Examination at UG & PG levels. Under the Semester system, the teachers themselves set the mid-term & end-term question papers & evaluate them. They conduct quiz & class tests for teacher\\\'s evaluation. The mid-term examination carries 30 marks, teacher\\\'s evaluation 20 & the end term examination carry 50 marks. The students are awarded letter grades from Excellent (Ex) to fail (F) depending on their over all performance. The academic section coordinates the over all examination. The results are assessed by either the Under Graduate program Evaluation Committee (UGPEC) or Post Graduate Evaluation Committee (PGPEC) & then sent to the Senate for approval. The students have to maintain a CGPA of 6.0 to continue beyond their first year of study. Supplementary examinations are organized in the summer quarter.
