Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven Institutes of Technology created as centres of excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India, the others being at Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Bombay, Guwahati and Roorkee. Established as College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared an Institution of National Importance under the "Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963" and was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi". It was then accorded the status of a deemed university with powers to decide its own academic policy, to conduct its own examinations, and to award its own degrees. HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, laid the foundation stone of the Institute on January 27, 1959. The Institute was inaugurated by Prof.Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs on August 21, 1961. The Institute buildings were formally opened by Dr.Zakir Hussain, the then President of India, on March 2, 1968.

Placement
Training and Placement
The Training and Placement Unit of the Institute is responsible for arranging training of the undergraduate students to meet their degree requirement and to provide world class job opportunities to the undergraduate and postgraduate students after graduation for suitable jobs in the industry and various private and public sector organizations. The Training and Placement Unit arranges senior executives of major industries and organizations to provide pre-placement orientation to the students prior to formal campus interviews.
Campus interviews for graduate and / or postgraduate students commence in mid-August for batch of M.Tech. students that pass out in December and B.Tech., M.Sc., M.Des. and 5-year integrated M.Tech. etc. that pass out in May every year.
The formal request should contain company profile, functional requirements, job description giving details of job contentsand identifying B.Tech / M.Tech courses relevant to your requirement, major service conditions, emolument package, location, foreign collaboration etc. alongwith printed brochures / publicity material.
* On receipt of above, your requirements will be given wide publicity and bio-data of interested students be invited.
* These bio-data will be sent to your organisation with a suggested / mutually convenient date for campus interview.
* Reasonable facilities for holding test/ interview will be provided by us.
Admission
Admission to B.Tech, Dual-Degree and Integrated M.Tech. Programs
Admission to all Undergraduate Programmes (B .Tech.) are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The eligibility for appearing for JEE and details about the JEE can be obtained from the JEE website.
Admission to PG Programs [Foreign Nationals]
Applicants under Cultural Exchange Fellowship Programme
The foreign nationals desirous of admission to a post-graduate programme (M.Sc./M.Tech./M.S. (Research)/ M.Des./ Ph.D.) at IIT Delhi under this Fellowship programme, are required to apply to the Indian High Commissions/Embassies as the case may be, in their respective countries.
After examining the case of the applicants from all angles, they will recommend/sponsor the names to the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, which in turn, will recommend the applicants to this Institute. On receipt of applications of foreign nationals from ICCR, this Institute will examine each case in accordance with its prescribed eligibility criteria for adjudging the academic suitability of the applicant for admission to the desired course/programme.
Scholarships
Admission under the ADB Scholarship scheme
Applicants seeking admission under the ADB Scholarship scheme will be considered for admission to M.Tech/Ph.D. Programmes. Only foreign nationals fulfilling the prescribed qualifications and belonging to ADB member countries will be considered for admission.
