Functioning under the aegis of Nirma Education and Research Foundation (established in 1994), the university presently includes of a top grade – Institute of Technology (1995), a leading b-school – Institute of Management (1996), an innovative Institute of Diploma Studies (1997), an upcoming Institute of Pharmacy (2003), Institute of Science (2004) and emerging Institute of Law (2007). All these institutions have emerged as centers of excellence offering various programmes ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels in technology, engineering, business, pharmacy and sciences.
Considering the quality of education being provided, the Government of Gujarat established the Nirma University under Act No. 10 passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Gujarat in April 2003. This development witnessed the merging of all Institutes under the NERF into a single entity of Nirma University. The objects of the University are to develop the knowledge of science and technology for the advancement of mankind in general and the following in particular:
To disseminate, create and preserve knowledge and understanding by teaching research, training and extension activities by effective demonstration and influence of its corporate life on society in general.
To create centres of excellence for providing knowledge, education, training and research facilities of high order in the field of science, technical, dental, medical, paramedical, physiotherapy, pharmacy, commerce, management, education, humanities and other related professional education as per its current status and such other manner as may develop in future, including continuing education and distance learning.
To develop patterns of teaching a Certificate/Diploma, Undergraduate, Post-Graduate courses and Doctoral level and to maintain a high standard of education and its applications, to create capabilities for upgrading science and technology, dental, medical, paramedical, physiotherapy, pharmacy, commerce, management, education and humanities.

The key to success of a university has been its people and the various activities of the university are governed by different bodies of people constituted for specific purposes of facilitating academic excellence at the University. Institute of Technology:
Industry Institution Interaction Cell (III Cell) is established to provide close links with industries. The purpose of the cell is to find out the gap between need of the industry and end product of the institute. The cell is the bridge between the industry, the real world and the institute. One of the objectives is also to offer programmes fulfilling the needs of continuing education of the industrial personnel.
We believe in developing programmes, which provides solutions to real world problems with a strong desire of forging innovative alliance with industry to achieve synergy. III Cell imparts benefits to all components like students, faculty, institute and industry by interacting closely with the industries. Students are exposed to the real world and learn the needs of their future career. Industry exposure of faculty is very much helpful to guide students about latest industrial practices.
Industries are able to know recent developments and inventions in their fields and implement projects for technologically driven economy. The III Cell is governed by the Advisory Committee; headed by the Director as a Chairman, Head of the Department as members and Placement-cum-Training Officer as a Member Secretary.
Accommodation
The University campus also boats of two massive hostel buildings catering to the post graduate students’ residential needs. For day scholars the University operates a fleet of buses that ply from all corners of the city. The campus also provides hygienic canteen facilities catering to the all students and staff of the University. The outdoor sports facilities include cricket, basketball, football, etc
Scholarships
Institute of Technology:
Interest free loan scholarships.
Nirma University offers financial assistance by way of interest on loan as per following details to the needy students on the basis of the merit.
Family Income not exceeding Rs. 2 Lacs/Annum
Assistance of 100% interest on the loan obtained from schedule bank limited to the amount of tuition fees to 5% students of the intake
Family Income not exceeding Rs. 4 Lacs/Annum
Assistance of 50% interest subsidy on the loan obtained from schedule bank limited to the amount of tuition fees to 5% students of the intake
Scholarship : Institute of Science:
Scholarship for the full time Ph.D. for first two years will be Rs.14000/- per month and for the remaining period it will be Rs.16000/- per month. These research scholars will be associated with teaching work for 8 hours in a week as assigned by the Head of the Institution, in consultation with the guide. However, sponsored and External applicants will not be eligible for scholarship.
