In hospitals they may escort patients between hospital departments, assist with treatments or examinations, keep the ward tidy, check and sort supplies and help with paperwork.

Health Care Assistants work with patients who have mental health or learning disabilities, may generate activities to increase their self-confidence. This can involve shopping trips or outings to leisure facilities.

Mission & Vision

Roding College is committed to providing its customers with quality teaching through a range of courses, which are equally satisfying, relevant and useful. All course programmes are delivered by highly competent, qualified lecturers who prepare students for graduate entry to university, career development or immediate employment.

The fee paying private students are the customers, with the main customers being post secondary school students and adults seeking Higher Education, generally between the ages of 20 to 40. Current records show the Asian ethnic group as being the largest customer group, closely followed by Black African and Black Caribbean.

Roding College has focused on foreign students, targeting the overseas market for its new intake. Today, 80% of its private fee-paying students are from overseas. Students are predominately from Mauritius, Pakistan, India, Taiwan and African countries such as Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and Zimbabwe amongst others.

The remaining 20% are cultivated from the domestic market, where courses for home students are calculated on a lower fee structure, due to less complex administration being required. This target section of the student community is focused on people resident north of the Thames as well as the South and South- East London. Generally, short courses are promoted to this section of the community in an effort to motivate their desire for refresher courses or to learn new skills to meet future career aspirations.

Overseas students, especially those within the higher age bracket, tend to enrol for professional business and management courses such as ACCA and CIMA. As a general indicator, the Institute for the Management Information Systems as well as Computer Literacy have proven popular subjects with foreign students.

Another popular route is the Health & Social Care programme, providing students with the prerequisites to entry level nursing. On obtaining their basic qualifications at Roding Community College, many students progress on to University to study for their BSc Degree in Nursing.

Due to recent changes in government policy, the programme portfolio has expanded. Fee-paying home students can now enrol at Roding Community College to also benefit from Learning & Skill Council (LSC) part-funded programmes in Basic Skills, National Vocational Qualifications and Modern Apprenticeships programmes, National and Higher National Certificate and Diploma courses and Access to Higher Education programmes.

Importantly, the directors fully acknowledge that private education can be an expensive decision particularly for students from less affluent families, but with this in mind the company provides flexible payments terms to fit most budgets.

Future mid to long term plans will include investigating the viability of increasing the number of Home Students. The existing 80:20 ratio overseas to home students is likely to change, moving towards a more balanced 50:50. As Roding Community College expands, the college will move more into government funded programmes and with BAC accreditation this is now high on the agenda.

Additionally, Roding College is collaborating with specific Institutes and Universities to provide a steady progression route to Degree and Graduate Diploma awards in appropriate areas of study. Roding Community College is also planning, in partnership with collaborating and validating universities to deliver degree programmes to meet the manpower requirements of modern Business and Enterprise.
