Shri Ram Lal Anand, an eminent lawyer of the Supreme Court, laid the foundation of RLA College in 1964. Initially, the college functioned in Defence Colony and Green Park before moving to its present location at Benito Juarez Road, opposite Anand Niketan. In 1973, the college was taken over by the University of Delhi and it now functions as a Delhi University maintained institution. It is a multi-faculty, co-educational college, having at present approximately 1350 students on its rolls in various courses. RLA College is situated in the neighbourhood of the South Campus. It has a vast campus spread over 10 acres of uninterrupted green lawns divided into multidimensional vertical and horizontal space, reflecting its multi-disciplinary character.
There are a sufficient number of classrooms and laboratories for Microbiology, Statistics, and Computer Science, an auditorium and seminar rooms. The affairs of RLA are looked after by a statutory Governing Body whose powers and functions have been defined in an ordinance legislated by the Executive Council of the by University of Delhi.
The college has a Staff Council, which decides the process of admission, makes recommendations for new teaching posts, stipulates the guidelines for maintaining discipline, and oversees the extra-curricular activities. From its inception the college has maintained a co-educational character, with only a little less than half of the students being women. To further strength this initiative, a women’s Welfare Advisory Board stands constituted, headed by senior lady member of the teaching staff. It provides counselling to the women-students with respect to their day-to-day problems, while encouraging them to realise the full potential of their personality. An organically structured body of administration ensures that the affairs of the college are managed with ease and economy, making an optimum use of quality time. The three centres of function and management–General Affairs, Accounts and Library—are headed by the Administrative Officer, who in turn reports to the Principal. Every wing is suitably diversified and functions both as a self-contained system and a connected body organ. These details are retrieved from www.rlacollege.edu.in
