The Management established Dayanand College of Arts and Science in Solapur in 1940 to celebrate the victory of Satyagraha launched by Arya Samaj against the atrocities committed by then the ruler of Hyderabad. Since then the Managing Committee has gone on continuously expanding its educational activities for the welfare of the people of Solapur and the surrounding areas. On 17th June 1940 Dayanand College of Arts and Science was established under the stewardship of Prin. G.L. Datta. The city of Solapur and the surrounding areas needed such a facility. Dayanand Institutions have been doing excellent work in serving the cause of education not only for Solapur District but also for the surrounding areas.
Aims and Objectives of DAV Institutions
a) To encourage, improve and enforce the study of Hindu literature.
b) To encourage and enforce the study of Classical Sanskrit of the Vedas.
c) To encourage and enforce the study of English literature & sciences both theoretical and applied.
d) To provide a means for giving technical education.

Accommodation
Gents Hostel :
Gents hostel was built on the area of approximately four acres in the year 1944. It is one of the oldest and reputed hostels in the jurisdiction of the Solapur University, Solapur. Accommodation is available for 350 students. Hostel has total 133 rooms, accommodating students
Ladies hostel:
A separate ladies hostel is built to accommodate 60 girls. Family accommodation is provided to the warden.

Admission procedure:
The application form for admission & prospectus can be obtained from the college office on the payment of the price thereof. The admission form should be filled in by the student in his own handwriting and he / she must take admission personally. Admission will be given on the basis of merit and as per the reservations declared by the Govt.. At the time of admission the student will have to pay all the college fees as per the rules & submit the required documents. Admissions are completely governed by rules & regulations made by Govt. / University from time to time
